Start at the collection point
A product’s commercial-compostability claim and a venue’s actual waste service are different parts of the decision. EPA notes that some commercial facilities do not accept compostable products. Before ordering for a disposal program, ask the collector about the exact cup, lining, lid and any other accessory. A certificate cannot create a collection route where one does not exist.
Use the current exact code
The BPI directory includes EP-BHC12-WA as a paper/PLA hot-cup product. That reference should be matched to the actual received code and current listing. It is not a license to label an unrelated white cup compostable. The selected Choice poly-coated cups have different product records and are not assigned the Eco-Products cup’s certification by this site.
Do not merge home and commercial settings
EPA explains that a commercially compostable plastic should not be assumed suitable for a home pile unless the label specifically supports that setting. Different facilities and processes have different acceptance conditions. This reference does not give a backyard decomposition estimate or promise that a cup disappears in a landfill. Keep the actual disposal setting in the claim.
Treat lids as separate components
A cup accepted by a program does not automatically establish acceptance of a polystyrene lid, a PLA lid, a sleeve or a carrier. The chosen basket should identify each component’s material and certification reference. If the facility accepts only some components, the collection instructions need to reflect that actual response. The website does not invent a one-bin solution for the whole assembly.
Write a useful supplier question
Ask whether the exact product code is on the program’s accepted list, whether lids need separation and whether other serviceware or food contamination changes acceptance. Retain the dated answer with the purchase plan. A general claim that the city has organics collection is not enough to establish acceptance of coated paper serviceware at a particular business address.
Keep the claim proportional
If no accepting route has been confirmed, state that limitation rather than calling the product locally composted or zero waste. This site provides source links and a purchasing checklist, not a local regulatory approval or recovery-rate calculation. Independent environmental-claim review remains pending, and no actual composting or waste-audit experiment has been performed.
A bin label needs a real route
A business can print an attractive compost sign without having a collector that accepts the actual serviceware. The purchase decision should connect the exact components to a real collection and processing arrangement first. This site does not generate local disposal instructions from a postcode or assume a certification guarantees downstream processing. If only food scraps are accepted, the existence of an organics bin does not establish acceptance of lined paper cups. Keep the facility’s response separate from the manufacturer’s certification claim.
